DW-The Leviathans, p. 1 THE LEVIATHANS The Leviathans, by BenJacksn Episode 1: 9/20/95 It is a dark and stormy night when the TARDIS lands at a mysterious estate in Maine. The crew is restless and agitated. Something is up, and the night will bring many changes, especially to one companion. A long ago prophecy by a foul race is about to be fulfilled. Can the Doctor find out who or what is behind the evil and stop it? The New Adventures of Doctor Who, Wednesdays 11pm-midnight Eastern time, in the simulations room "Simulations City", (Keyword SIM) ----------- Subj: Leviathans--background info LEVIATHANS Leviathans are an ancient and evil race whose planet of origin is unknown. A large group of them settled/were stranded on earth thousands, perhaps millions of years ago. And began to exploit the planet's resources. They are a long lived race and in their true form loathsome to behold. So terrible in fact, that a person risks the chance of going insane when seeing one in their true form. However, they are the masters of mind control and manipulation and can alter their forms to appear human. A Leviathan, no matter his true age, appears as a young blonde stikingly beautiful human when in that form. So even the oldest Leviathan appears no older than a late 30s human. Ages ago, the Leviathans found out that they were dying. Mostly due to their own evilness. To combat this, they started to intermingle with humans. Many times they will kill rich or powerful humans and then assume their place. This happened with Roger and Carolyn Collins and explains why Elizabeth is human. The Leviathans hold an old prophecy that says that the savior of their race will be born from a human father and Leviathan mother. This savior, having the best attributes of humans (which are very few according to the Leviathans) and Leviathans. He will lead them to conquer the planet where humans will become slaves to them. Leviathans are so loathesome that even nature itself dislikes them. Animals run in fear and the weather becomes violent when a large number of them gather. They specialize in a number of rituals which involve sacrifices. They are a very tradition bound race. Carolyn Collins has known since her birth that she was to be the mother of the chosen one. Thorugh their numerous prophicies they determined that Ben was to be the father. However, they needed his father to "give him away" to them to make fulfill the prophecy. ----------- THE LEVIATHANS (Part 1 of 2) CAST REGULARS THE DOCTOR - DRTUNA BEN JACKSON - BenJacksn TEGAN JOVANKA - MsTegan M. DANIEL DELMIN - DanielC71 ELIZABETH COLLINS - Matriarch of Collinwood. Human. Appears to be about 55. Stately, graceful, but also can be warm and friendly. Innocent of the goings on in the house and her family. Although she suspects that many of them, especially Roger, have been on edge and acting very strange of late. Will work with the Doctor to defeat the Leviathans once she is made aware of them, mostly for revenge in killing her family and taking their places. ROGER COLLINS - Elizabeth's brother, He is Carolyn's father and is the "leader" of the Leviathans, although he only appears to be about 35. Blonde and very handsome. Cold and cunning. He seeks to control the Doctor's TARDIS. Behind the kidnapping of Delmin and will seek to brainwash or destroy the Doctor. Completely without mercy or morals. CAROLYN COLLINS - The Leviathan bride of Ben. Blonde and strikingly beautiful, but is evil, except to Ben whom she truly loves. Carolyn will take Ben and snowball him into marriage. Her powers of brainwashing and manipulation are unparalleled. Plus she knows alot about Ben's past, probably more than he does. She knows the fate of the Leviathan destiny lies in her hands. But her love for Ben may cause her to "change sides" towards the end of the adventure. JEBEDIAH (JEB) HAWKES - A Leviathan and a guest of Elizabeth and Roger. A young 25 year old looking blonde haired handsome mans with a wicked heart. He will attempt to seduce Tegan. He will play upon her need to feel important and needed. Building up her self-esteem and enticing her with wild promises. However, he views humans as amusing playthings to be discarded after he has promised them all.. Will probably move to kill her, more out of enjoyment than anything else. SKY RUMSEN - A 27 year old occult expert on the trail of the Leviathans. Currently posing a Roger's assistant to learn a way to destroy them. Kind of headstrong but has enough common sense not to do things rashly. NED STUART - Roger's flunkie, poses as the groundskeeper when Roger doesn't need him for something. Age about 29 fairly strong and his prone to attacks of violence. Age: 31 Native Planet/Time: Earth, Zone 8 (Wisconsin), 2395. Personality: Can't help but see the absurd in things, as this is how he views his own chaotic life. A risk taker, although he disproportionately tries to shield his friends and loved ones from danger. Dress: Simple, not ostentatious like many of his contemporaries. Usually wears a long trench coat with many inside pockets. Occupation: Former Terran Senator, Amateur Net Cracker. Special Skills and Powers: Safe cracking, leadership. Family: Brian (brother), unnamed father Background: From the Delmin family of Zone 12 (England). His father, a billionaire, groomed Daniel for power from a young age. The Senior Delmin eventually bought his son a seat on the Terran Senate, which Daniel immediately used to investiage the third most powerful Corp of his day: Troygon. Daniel was apparently killed by Troygon troops during a Senate hearing, but was actually wisked away by the Doctor to keep the history books safe. Daniel's apparent death was the cause for a peaceful revolution that toppelled the corrupt Senate and eliminated the Lassiez-Faire Terran Government. (NOTE of trivia: Daniel's cousin, Gregor Delmin-Greffen, was one of the first explorers of the planet Solos, later to become famous in the Doctor's past.) On a less historical note, Daniel was engaged to a scientist named Cassandra, but for unknown reasons, the relationship was terminated. For one thing, we received some unexpected guests, and quite likable people at that, one of them even a distant relative. (Fancy that!) I'd forgotten how nice it was to have decent company for tea! Dr. Collins breathes some fresh air into this musty old place. It certainly is nice to have someone to talk to again. . .(Although, I must remember to ask him what brought him to these parts.) I can't quite remember what the names of his companions, but I have noticed that Jeb has taken quite a fancy to the woman companion, and Carolyn is quite smitten with the handsome young man. That certainly relieves my worried heart. I DO hope that this is the one for her to marry. As for Rodger, I am quite upset at the way my brother has been acting. Very upset. The settings are not quite right, but I'm working on it. I have decided to call it the "Prowl" program. It "prowls" around looking for disturbances to the fabric of time. When it finds them, it tries to trace the disturbance to its point in space. Then, in the Tardis we can go there and then follow it back through time until we find its origin. Then, hopefully, I will be able to stop whoever it is who is meddling with the time stream ... perhaps one of the Timelords who escaped. However, so far I have had limited results. The first disturbance turned out to by the Troygon Corporation, or was it Daniel's missed flight? No renegade Timelord. Ben suggested looking for the characteristic double heart beat of a Timelord, which is something I have been working on. The "prowl" program has now indicated a new phenomenon. It indicates some incredibly unusual weather patterns. Location, Maine, Earth, 20th century. We landed and found ourselves in a dark short pine wood amidst a dreary weather situation -- cold, damp, sharply irregular winds. We saw lights and headed towards them. A fine manor loomed out of the darkness. A sign read "Collins." As we went inside I recalled a Collins connection. I had once been asked by the Brigadier to investigate a certain Quentin Collins, a scientist from rural Maine who was the target of an assassination plot. I now look a bit like Dr. Collins, and I read the file, but managed to avoid becoming involved. Yes, this was the same place. I wonder why I remember strange details like this (or Tegan's Aunt Vanessa's auto license plate) and not other important things? Memory loss in later regenerations? I wonder. I introduced myself as Quentin, and even found a picture of him in the house, and I was accepted willingly. A little too willingly. Some of those there seemed particularly interested in my companions. Daniel also seems to have not arrived with the rest of us. I had some tea and an enjoyable conversation with Elizabeth, the matronly senior of the house. She seemed quite charming, but concerned about strange turns in her family and in the weather. While speaking to her my eyes wandered (as they often do...I find myself operating the two of them independently these days) and I noticed something strange about the fireplace. I let myself be tricked by a creep who pretended to love me, but instead just ended up being some kind of a fiend called a Leviathan...a fiend who was intent on eating me! I do know one thing, if it wasn't for Delmin and Sky, I'd probably be dead right now. They turned up and created a distraction that allowed me to get free from that monster, Jeb. Then it happened AGAIN! Mind games. Jeb wormed his way into my mind and created my own private nightmare for me. I was dying in a plane crash! It felt so real! The noises, the vibration of the plane, Glenn smirking and putting me down, saying I wasn't competent as a pilot. If Delmin hadn't reached out to help me through it, I'd probably still be inside that nightmare. Delmin, again. He seems to keep showing up just in time...like he's keeping an eye out for me or something. I'm glad someone does! Anyway, snapping out of my own dream, I found Delmin in his. Delmin dreamed of a beautiful woman he had loved once, called Cassandra. She was giving him a tough mental and physical pounding, and seemed totally out of control. I didn't know how to help him, so I paniced and yelled at him. I guess I must have yelled plenty loud, because it seemed to work. Once we were free, I just wanted to get back to the Tardis. But Delmin looked me square in the face and told me we had to stop Jeb, or another woman would have to go through the same thing I had. I knew he was right, but I didn't much like it. Then something happened that really shook me up. We found Jeb, alright. And we put an end to his pranks, too. We forced him over the edge of a cliff! I can't believe we killed him! I've never killed anyone before. Delmin told me that it was necessary. Kill or be killed. Jeb would never have let us get away. Delmin doesn't seem too shook up about it, but I am. I tried to talk to Ben about it, but he was locked in his room, and wouldn't let me in. He sounded like he might have been crying when he told me to just leave him alone. Ben in unconsolable. I'm still not sure what occured. Maybe I'll ask again later. Tegan pulled through like a trooper, even giving me the bottom of her shirt for my wound. The left side of my face has a nice scar on it now. The Doctor's medical supplies healed me well, but the wound is still visible. A Leviathan slashed me and later subjected Tegan and I to mental torture. I saw Cassandra; Tegan saw some man named Glenn who called her a failure. I guess we are both afraid of that, one way and another. Tegan feared she was no good as a pilot, and I still wonder if... No. Not now. Sky told us that the creature (who had taken the form of a man named Jeb) would kill again unless we killed it first. We tracked the Leviathan to a cliff's edge. Tegan bunged a rock at it and I kicked it, and down it went. Tegan seemed to have second thoughts on killing the beast. No need. I wish I would have had a chance to talk to Sky for a minute, but as usual, the Doctor nearly left without us in his hasty departure. I've been reading one of the Doctor's diaries I found in the library. He was a very different man once. I read an account of his battle with the Weed Creatures that took place with two companions, Jamie and Victoria. I can readily understand why Victoria wanted to leave the TARDIS at the end of it all. But it's amazing to think he is so different; you would think that since then he has become a completely different man! ---------- THE DOCTOR'S LOG -- SORT OF The Doctor filed no log at the end of this adventure. However, the Tardis did observe him in the library and made this report to the Matrix. The Doctor enters the library with a glass of milk and sits in his favorite easy chair. He sips his milk and stares at the empty space in the air directly in front of him. He sighs deeply and begins to talk to himself. "I might as well be alone. Ben believes that I have taken him away from the only woman he ever really had a chance to love and call his wife. Yet, I cannot lie to him about what happened. Delmin seems to blame me for everything, as if I was anything close to perfect! Perhaps I am used to finding problems wherever I go, but he thinks it is some kind of plot to use them to fight my battles, or worse, to torture them. He seems very protective of Tegan, and blames me when I am not solely focused on her well being." "Tegan still seems to trust me, but she is showing the strains of our adventures. Shall I soon be an outcast in my own Tardis?" The Doctor lowers his head into his hands and thinks to himself quietly. He begins speaking again. "I want to make them happy, to be a joyful tour guide, but how can I turn away when the prowl program reveals another escaped Timelord criminal at work? How can I balance the need to placate my companions with my responsibilities?" "I care for them very much. But I cannot ignore the pain of worlds in order to restore harmony in the Tardis. I haven't felt so torn since my conflicts with Barbara and Ian." "I wish they could understand my sad fate ... to be a cosmic hobo and a galactic rescuer at the same time! I want to retreat to a quiet wood and just live, but I could not face myself after I turned my back on those in need." The Doctor rises and puts down his glass of milk. "I must fulfill my twin vow. I will defend the laws of time. I will protect the life of the universe, my companions included but not to the exclusion of other life forms. I may fail, I may be mocked, I may be misunderstood, but let no creature say I have abandoned by vows, even if it means my own eternal unhappiness. Some things are more important than my happiness." "I only wish they knew how much it hurts me when they suffer." The Doctor seats himself again, tilts his head back, and closes his eyes. But he is not asleep.
